THE HARSHEST criticism of Israel we’ve encountered so far is the focus of this week’s study. God calls the people of Judah a prostitute — except that prostitutes get paid, and Judah, said God, had been whoring with other gods for free.

PROPHECIES AGAINST Ammon, Edom, and Babylon are the focus of this week’s study. Again we find that by looking closely, we see references to rebellious supernatural entities: Milcom (or Molech), the national god of the Ammonites, and Marduk, king of the pantheon in Babylon, as well as demonic entities known in ancient Israel such as Pachad (“terror”).
JOSIAH IS remembered as one of the best kings of the House of David — indeed, he was the last good king of Israel.
King Josiah repaired the Temple, brought back the Law, and restored the Passover celebration, which hadn’t been kept properly since the days of the prophet Samuel.
