Gilbert House Fellowship #145: 2 Peter; Jude

SPIRITUAL WARFARE and the sin of the Watchers are the focus of this week’s New Testament study. Peter and Jude were in accord with the letters we read this week, and there is a lot of meat in these four short chapters.

Both apostles warned their readers of false prophets who had wormed their way into the church, spreading false doctrine, encouraging the pursuit of physical pleasure, and “blaspheming the glorious ones.” Who or what are the glorious ones? We honestly don’t know, but the context implies that they might be some kind of high-ranking angelic entities that even the archangels don’t dare rebuke!

We highlight references to the Book of Enoch and the sin of the Watchers, which we are learning (thanks to our friend Dr. Michael Heiser, whose new book, Reversing Hermon, documents the influence of the Mount Hermon incursion on the New Testament) was a lot more important than we ever thought. Peter and Jude make it explicitly clear that their sin was sexual, and resulted in their imprisonment until the judgment. Links between the angels “who left their proper dwelling” and the Greek myths of the Titans are discussed, and we spend a good deal of time on Peter’s list of the attributes of spiritual maturity (and how social media can short-circuit our spiritual growth).

  1. Enjoy your programs.I have learned a lot. On one of your programs in Jan Feb 2020 I think you said that another name for Satan was Dawn.If this is correct could you expound on this a little Thanking you in advance.

Hi, Bettie: Thank you! We were referring to Isaiah 14:12: “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!” In Hebrew, Lucifer is /Helel ben Shachar/, which literally translates as “Day (or Morning) Star, son of Dawn.”

Jerome translated that into Latin as “light-bringer,” which is /lux/ + /ferro/, hence Lucifer.

      1. Thanks for the info. In the book of Daniel ,The statue of gold, silver brass and iron and clay.Several times in the Old Test the clay is referred to as Israel ,the beings that try to mix their seed with Israel are the ones that come out of the pit (Tart) they followed Satan on earth before they were locked up .So he will lead them again .He will be indwelling the Antichrist at that time after His fake resurrection.Still trying to copy all of our LORD’S accomplishments they will not be able to repeat their sin again. Also the GLORIOUS ONES are the TRINITY..the LORD said “MY GLORY I WILL SHARE WITH NO ONE 2PETER 2 : 17 from THE EXCELLENT Glory Thanks again…..BH

  2. I am a seeker and so happy to have found this ministry. I prayed for wisdom and understanding and I knew there was a lot of information that the church simply would not or could not provide. Thank you for your research and for opening our understanding.

  3. A couple times in today reading the phrase ‘glorious ones’ was referenced. I believe these are the little gods or fallen angels.

In Jude vs 8, it states that, “Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones.

That is followed up in vs 9, with an example: Michael when contending with the devil over the body of Moses, did not pronounce a blasphemous judgement on the devil, but said “the Lord rebuke you”.
