joab-amasa-1THE REBELLION of Absalom has been quashed but a new one rises up in its place: As David returns to Jerusalem accompanied by members of his tribe, the Judahites, the northern tribes arrive along the way and confront the men of Judah. This leads to the short-lived rebellion of Sheba the son of Bichri, which highlights the ongoing tension between Judah and the northern tribes and foreshadows the eventual division of the kingdom in the days of Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

Gilbert House Fellowship #66: 1 Sam 21-24; Psalms 7, 27, 31, 34, 52

david-and-saul-in-the-cave-788x614DAVID IS on the lam as our Old Testament study continues, running for his life from the mad king, Saul. The king was so angry that the priest Ahimelech unknowingly helped David escape that he ordered the deaths of all 85 who wore the ephod in Nob, the city of the priests, as well as their families and animals. Saul again reveals his true character by completely destroying a city of priests of Yahweh after disobeying Yahweh’s command to devote the Amalekites to destruction.
