Options!

In response to your feedback, we’ve added Stripe as a payment processor to the Gilbert House Store and our donation page.

Although we’ve used PayPal without any issues for more than a decade, the company updated its acceptable use policy in October to state that messages which are “fraudulent, promote misinformation or are unlawful” were now considered violations of the policy–and would result in a fine of $2,500.

Worse, determining which messages violated the policy would be made at “PayPal’s sole discretion.”

Oh, really, now?

While the fine has been part of PayPal’s AUP since 2013, adding “misinformation” to the list of unacceptable behavior prompted a backlash on social media. Rightly so; misinformation, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

As of this writing, PayPal has backtracked on its new misinformation policy–a little. Providing “false, inaccurate or misleading information” is still considered a violation, and the $2,500 fine for violating the AUP remains.

Because of this, we’ve heard from a number of you who refuse to do business with PayPal any longer. We hear you. Therefore, we’ve added Stripe as an option so that you no longer need to use PayPal at our store of if you are led to support us through a financial gift.

We’ll keep PayPal as a payment option for now. For some, it’s more convenient to use, and there are some who prefer not to send credit card information over the web.

Thank you for your feedback. We truly appreciate your friendship, your prayers, and your support.

  1. I commend you for your decision. It’s good to see Christians not caving to the whims of the radical left.

  2. Dear Derek and Sharon,

I think you did a wonderful thing. I have quit using them also.

  3. Your website and function just keeps getting better and better. Screw PayPal and the horse they road in on. Really. It’s outrageous. Why risk the fine? I wouldn’t want MY donations to go towards that fine — especially when a violation is at their discreation! No way.
All the best to you both!

  4. Demonic unclean spirits continue to infiltrate every aspect of this world. However, god will always find a way to spread the word. Thank you so much. Bless you all for fighting
