Gilbert House Fellowship #291: Leviticus 8-10

THE FORMAL beginning of the Levitical priesthood and the sacrificial system is the focus of this week’s study.

After going through the rules for the sacrifices in our last couple of studies, this week we discuss the formal ordination of Aaron and his sons.

Sadly for Nadab and Abihu, their term as priests didn’t last very long. Leviticus 10 describes their destruction by God for offering unauthorized (or “strange”) fire before the Lord. To be honest, their specific transgression is not named in the Bible; it may be that they hadn’t prepared incense according to the instructions of Exodus 30:34-38, or it may be that they weren’t even supposed to burn incense since that task had been appointed to Aaron (Ex. 30:7-8). Perhaps Aaron’s sons thought that burning some unauthorized incense would curry God’s favor and earn them a promotion ahead of their father.

Whatever the reason, it was a hard lesson that God is to be respected and His will is to be done—a lesson the modern church seems to take all too lightly.

  1. I once read a commentary stating it is possible that Nadab and Abihu were drunk, so, instead of using the fire of God, they used animal dung as fuel because it was slow burning and they could sleep off their drunk until the morning. See Ezekiel 4:12, 13. I don’t know if this is correct.

How cool is God: even though Aaron sinned with the golden calf, he was still commissioned as high priest. God is a God of second chances!!!

    1. Given the earlier discussion of where the consecrated men defecated during the extended stay in the tent maybe it was their own waste that they were burning. Strange Fire indeed.

  2. Sharon, I have a daughter that lives in Dublin Ohio. I remember that there was a Conference in Dublin of SkyWatch tv watchers. I don’t remember the name of the conference. She is looking for likeminded people. Could you recommend a church there

  3. I wanted to tell you one thing about who I believe was Michael, the Arch Angel of the Lord God of Israel.

Michael, as I observed him, was without any feature of Angels as shown in most pictures of Angels, in our history.

Michael was in truth, similar to what would likely be either a Very Diffeeent Creation, or a Being in a special Uniform or a type of dress that seemed to be protective, perhaps it was because of requirements due to the domain of time through which he was likely going through possible stress.

Reason for my thinking, the stress I went through afterwards, and the construction of his possible head dress if truly a head dress.

His head was enclosed in a set of seeminly two Thick discs a smaller Disc in the frontal portion overlaying a wider disc in the back section of the head.

The discs were of two different diameters, the wider dimension was in the rear, on both discs with the smaller disc’s rearward wider surface overlaying the smaller width disc and centered on the same center and using the same center of the rear disc overlaid by the frontal disc cylinder mic construction.

The amazing thing about all of this description was that I saw, on a type of petroglyphs or an etched image on a large Flat Rock Carved Art picturd or Image, from Very Ancient Times, in either Columbia, Ecuador, or Peru.

I lost the one I had, and have not been able to find it since I lost it.

It was amazingly like the Angel I saw, on the street in Brindisi, Italy.
