Gilbert House Fellowship #185: Jeremiah 49-50

PROPHECIES AGAINST Ammon, Edom, and Babylon are the focus of this week’s study. Again we find that by looking closely, we see references to rebellious supernatural entities: Milcom (or Molech), the national god of the Ammonites, and Marduk, king of the pantheon in Babylon, as well as demonic entities known in ancient Israel such as Pachad (“terror”).

JOSIAH IS remembered as one of the best kings of the House of David — indeed, he was the last good king of Israel.

King Josiah repaired the Temple, brought back the Law, and restored the Passover celebration, which hadn’t been kept properly since the days of the prophet Samuel.

Gilbert House Fellowship #134: 1 Kings 10-11; 2 Chr 9; Proverbs 30-31

ENTANGLEMENTS WITH cares of the world, whether it’s business, politics, or personal relationships, can distract us from what we’re called to do by God.

This week, we see the fall of Solomon, whose wives draw him into the worship of pagan gods like Ashtereth (Astarte; i.e., Ishtar), Chemosh, and Molech. For his apostasy, God took the northern tribes away from Solomon’s descendants, leaving the House of David as rulers of only Judah and Benajmin.
